Why wallpaper is the ultimate design choice
When it comes to choosing a design scheme for your home, it’s easy to feel lost in endless catalogues and home stores that stage the same designs. And while there’s nothing wrong with a simple, serene Scandi style, it’s also important to find something that is uniquely you.
That’s where wallpaper can come into its own. You can really create a space that stands out from the crowd, and one that makes you come home at the end of the day and just smile. We’ve put together some ‘mood boards’ – textured, neutral, bright and bold – so you can see the real difference wallpaper can make.
Textured

Wallpapers with gentle texture add dimension and character to any space. They can be a great addition for those who love a minimalist aesthetic, creating just the right level of depth in a simpler room, as well as being a great choice for the maximalists where ‘more texture is more’. Textured wallpapers with the look of sand, linen, wood and brick can also bring nature and a sense of calm indoors whilst creating a lived-in, welcoming feel.
Remember you can also create your own textured finish and colours using Resene’s new MyArtisan Foundation Coat if wallpaper doesn’t appeal.
Neutral

Neutral does not have to mean ‘predictable’. There are plenty of neutral wallpapers that offer texture and depth too. Plus, you can choose from delicate tone-on-tone styles, through to bolder, dichromatic patterns.
If your home already features a lot of whites, greys, beiges or blacks, then selecting a neutral-coloured wallpaper is a simple way to add texture and interest. Plus, if you are eyeing up that burnt orange couch, or an equally colourful piece of art, then a neutral base can work wonders as you add your own style around it and change things up.
Bright

Wallpaper is a great way of injecting a burst of colour into your living room, kitchen or bedroom. Yellows warm a space instantly, blues bring a calming, summery vibe and greens impart a sense of fresh, renewed energy. Our homes not only reflect our taste, they can also influence our mood. If you’re new to the world of colour, a powder room can be a great starting space to test out the waters.
Bold

Aside from bright and brilliant colours, bold patterns and motifs are a choice that truly make a home unique. From forest murals to tropical birds and geometric shapes, these wallpapers can create any mood you can imagine. They work well as a feature wall to create a focal point in a room, and can also help to hide imperfections compared to a solid colour.
