In the wild: A home that echoes its alpine surroundings

In the heart of Wanaka’s alpine region, this beautifully designed home is a true reflection of its stunning surroundings, brought to life with carefully chosen Resene paints and the skilful eye of architectural and interior designer Priyanka Sareen. With an architectural nod to Nordic simplicity, this home’s offset gables and clean lines seamlessly echo the rugged peaks beyond, creating a retreat that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Theexterior, painted in Resene Half White Pointer with contrasting dark timber, reflects the hues and angles of the natural landscape and mountains.

From the outside, the home’s striking form is softened by its thoughtful landscaping, and once indoors, a warm, earthy palette sets the tone for relaxation. French oak flooring runs throughout, grounding the space with its rich, natural hues, while walls and ceilings painted in varying strengths of Resene Rice Cake enhance the light and airy feel. This harmonious backdrop allows the homeowner’s carefully curated furnishings and architectural features to shine.

The kitchen blends deep grey schist tones with a rare, luxurious benchtop that ripples with blue and gold hues, reminiscent of ocean waves. Soft-touch black cabinetry adds a sleek contrast, while the warmth of timber slatting near the dining area introduces a natural texture that ties the space together beautifully.

As with many of Priyanka’s other designs, the bathrooms in this home are far from ordinary. The main bathroom takes inspiration from the nearby lake, with bespoke tiling in soft, wave-like blues offset by muted beige tiles and aged brass tapware, enhancing the serene, spa-like feel.

In the master ensuite, geometric white and gold mosaic tiles add a touch of elegance, balanced by warm neutral tones that create a sense of calm. Meanwhile, the second ensuite embraces bold drama, featuring black and white marble-inspired tiles that demand attention, further elevated by matte black tapware. Each bathroom is like a retreat for the homeowners and guests, offering a unique experience while still flowing seamlessly with the rest of the home.

A feature wall ispainted in Resene Double Thorndon Cream and Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream adds a gentle contrast, grounding the room in earthy warmth. The second and third bedrooms also have their own feature walls in Resene Double Thorndon Cream and Resene Helix. These soft, nature-inspired tones perfectly complement the home’s architectural angles, enhancing its unique character.

Top tip: If you have a busy home or are always entertaining guests, your home might take on some extra wear and tear. Make sure your paint finishes can handle this with durable waterborne enamels, such as Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen on walls, Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss on trim and joinery and Resene SpaceCote Flat on the ceiling. If you do find you end up with marks, you can clean them off using Resene Interior Paintwork Cleaner.
