Joanne and Chris bring beachy brights to their B&B
With orange as her happy colour, it’s no surprise to see it feature throughout Joanne’s home – from a beautiful barn door painted in Resene Tangerine to splashes of orange in the artwork and furniture.
Based in Papamoa, Joanne owns this home with partner Chris, where they also run a bed and breakfast. And while the home boasts plenty of colour, it’s been given a foundation of soft Resene neutrals, creating a balance of colour and calm – a nice environment for guests looking to relax.
Joanne tells us more.
What Resene colours and products have you used and what inspired those choices?
For the exterior, we used Resene Stack, a gentle grey. To make the windows pop, we painted the trims in a Resene version of Arctic White.
The guest bedrooms have been painted in Resene Double Sea Fog and we love it – it’s an easy colour that complements all surroundings.
The kitchen has been painted in Resene Double Alabaster, with the splashback painted in Resene Time Out, a clear blue. The soft tone creates calm within the kitchen space.
For the walls of the family room we used wallpaper design 218415, from the Resene Wallpaper Collection.
How did you decide on the overall look of the interiors?
I had no master plan apart from it had to have colour. And if the colour doesn't work? I say just paint over it. Easy!
What part of the house are you happiest with?
I love all of our house. We spend most of our time in our family room as it’s the heart of the home, and extends out to a large deck.
What is your advice for someone trying to achieve a similar look?
Be bold and brave and believe in your own style.
What was the biggest challenge for this project?
No challenges. Chris is a handyman who thinks about every project in detail, and achieves my vision normally with ease.
Do you have a favourite colour, and if so why is it your favourite?
Orange is my happy colour.
Is there anyone else you would like mentioned?
My partner Chris and I work as a great team. He rolls his eyes at some of my ideas but he comes round whenever someone comments that something looks great.
