Revesby Workers Club has reimagined their space to appeal to a younger audience, transforming unused areas into a vibrant venue with the help of Sydney-based design firm Squillace. Enlisted to bring this vision to life was mural artist George Rose, whose distinctive style perfectly complemented the club’s creative ambitions.
Drawing from the nostalgic energy of 90s Australian surf brands like Mambo, Quicksilver and Billabong, George created murals bursting with bold patterns and playful charm. Her design seamlessly weaves through the venue, using pastel shades and vivid acidic hues such as Resene Spritzer, Resene Pursuit and Resene Moody Blue. A sun-bleached aesthetic is achieved with carefully layered tones of lavender, mint green and acid yellow, balanced by bold black and white graphic elements.
George’s muralsare painted with an array of vibrant Resene colours, including Resene Spritzer, Resene Moody Blue, Resene Pursuit, Resene Big Bang, Resene Tree Frog, Resene Funk, Resene Buttercup, Resene Ballerina, Resene Niagara, Resene Riptide, Resene Dark Rum, Resene Black, Resene WhiteandResene Ultramarine.
Adding a cheeky dose of nostalgia, George hand-lettered 90s slang onto signage, with phrases like “talk to the hand” and “you go girl” injecting humour and personality. The artwork aligns effortlessly with the space’s playful atmosphere, wrapping around bar contours and other fixtures like pieces of a Tetris puzzle.
The project wasn’t without its challenges. The mural’s installation had to coincide with the bar’s fit-out, requiring George to work closely with tradespeople to ensure each phase transitioned smoothly. Over five weeks, the design evolved organically, with added sections refining the overall composition.
Neon lights within the space showcase the stunning design and multitude of Resene hues throughout.
To ensure durability in high-traffic areas like kickboards and bar tiles, meticulous surface preparation and specific Resene primers were used. Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen was selected for the murals, known for its vibrant and long-lasting finish. For extra protection, the artwork was sealed with Resene Uracryl GraffitiShield, safeguarding its integrity for years to come.
George Rose’s work at Revesby Workers Club is not just a mural – it’s a visual celebration of colour, nostalgia and creativity, turning the space into a destination for style and fun.
