A brush of Christmas joy: Make your own festive artwork

Christmas art is one way to add some instant Christmas cheer into your home but finding the right piece to buy locally can be tricky, so why not create your own. This simple Christmas tree art is quick to make and very effective. It can be placed anywhere around your home for the festive season, from your entryway, dining room and living room. We’ve even put a terracotta pot at the bottom as the ‘base’ and you could fill this with sweets or candy canes!

 You will need:

• 1 x canvas, ours is 91x61cm
• Terracotta pot
• Glue
• Wooden stars
• Pencil
• Resene testpots in colours of your choice. We used Resene Red Berry, Resene Holly and Resene Meringue
• Testpot paintbrush
• Fine paintbrush for the tree

Step 1: Paint you canvas in a Resene colour of your choice. We used Resene Meringue.

Step 2: Using a pencil, draw your Christmas tree design onto the canvas.

Step 3: Paint over your tree design in your chosen colour. We used the dark green, Resene Holly.

Step 4: Paint your wooden stars in your chosen shade. We used Resene Red Berry.

Step 5: Glue your painted wooden stars onto the canvas as if they were hanging on the tree branches. Hang your tree art up and enjoy!
