Light up your home with this DIY lamp

09 Oct 2024

Give an old lamp a new life with the help of Resene testpots in your favourite colours. This quick and easy afternoon project is fun and a great way to re-use an old lamp instead of throwing it away. If you don’t have a spare lamp, you’re sure to find one at your local second-hand store. We’ve painted ours with bright blues and oranges, adding stripes for a unique touch, but you can be as creative as you like with your design!

You will need:

  • Lamp
  • Sandpaper
  • Resene Laminate and Melamine Primer
  • Paintbrush
  • Paint
  • Resene Clearcoat UVS
  • Resene testpots in your favourite shades. Fleur used Resene Rose Of Sharon and Resene Aquarius

Step 1: Start by removing the shade from the lamp and giving the base a sand with a coarse grit sandpaper. Paint on one coat of Resene Laminate and Melamine Primer on to the base and allow it to dry.

Step 2: Once theprimer is dry, paint the base and shade with two coats of your chosen Resene colours. Fleur used Resene Aquarius on the base and Resene Rose Of Sharon on the shade.

Step 3: Paint on your design in more of your chosen Resene colours. Fleur painted thin straight lines for her design using Resene Rose Of Sharon on to the base, and Resene Aquarius on to the shade.

Step 4: Once the paint is dry, paint a coat of Resene Clearcoat UVS on to the base to give it a shiny finish.
