On trend: getting in touch with nature
There are few trends as hot right now as ones based on earthy, natural looks.
Woven natural textures – especially in fibres like sisal, rattan and jute – are everywhere, along with equally earthy colours to complement them: a myriad of greens such as Resene Rococo, Resene Untamed, Resene New Leaf or Resene Smoothie; terracottas like Resene Mocassin and Resene Raging Bull; and blushes of warm, barely-there sunset tones like petal pink, lilac and buttery yellows in hues of Resene Shilo, Resene Ethereal, Resene Dreamtime and Resene Moonlight.
The popularity of rich emeralds and jades such as Resene Family Tree, Resene Atlas and Resene Mother Nature paired with more luxe brass and white marble finishes is still holding strong, and the look can be easily mixed with natural or whitewashed baskets and plenty of plants for more dressed down glamour.
Take a look at these nature-inspired looks – they’re a great starting point for building an earthy palette that could be interpreted to suit nearly any taste.

This built-in bench seat is a great way to reclaim an under-utilised wall recess – and it lends itself beautifully to this feature wall in Resene Wallpaper Collection EAR406. Bring this woodsy colour palette into your home with Resene Spanish White, Resene Bubble N Squeak, Resene Waiouru and Resene Route 66.
This lush jade green space with its walls in Resene Mother Nature has the feel of a warm tropical jungle escape. The layers of green accessories throughout the room from the darker Resene Permanent Green and Resene Family Tree to the grey-green of Resene Rivergum and the pale Resene Peace on the desk chair, all enhance that feeling.

These textured walls in Resene Double Ash have a casual feel but have been beautifully balanced by furnishings in contemporary shapes and luxurious finishes – and the key to pulling it off is the earthy colour palette. The floor and coffee table have been painted Resene Helix, the side tables and plant pots are in Resene Karaka, while the glass and brass vases on top of the sideboard are Resene Permanent Green and Resene Helix.

Terracotta based looks are a major trend that keep popping up over and over on our Instagram and Pinterest feeds. This African-inspired lounge, with walls in Resene Sunbaked and floors in Resene Napa, could not be more current. Accents in Resene Moccasin, Resene Sambuca, and Resene Rocky Mountain lock in the earthiness of the look.

This cool and collected green palette is peaceful enough to work in practically any room. Fittingly, the wall is painting in Resene Peace behind the table in Resene Kandinsky, the vase in Resene Double Pravda, and the bowl in Resene New Leaf.

This room takes an entirely different spin on an earthy palette. By using two muted sunset pinks, this space is kept from become overpowering. The lighter colour, Resene Sorbet, is used like a neutral, leaving the darker colour Resene Just Dance, to work as a feature wall and frame the white linen sofa. The round jute coffee table is in the aptly named Resene Sunbaked while the pendant light is in Resene Despacito. Try introducing some accents in Resene Green Meets Blue to play off the natural colour brought in by the cactus.

This room is softened with the tonal earthy look of Resene Wallpaper Collection EAR303. Try building a tone-on-tone palette based on modern adobe colours such as Resene Earthen, Resene Napa, Resene Grey Olive and Resene Eighth Stonewashed.
