Boredom busters
The excitement of Christmas is over, all of the toys have been played with and now the kids are… well, bored. Here are some fun projects to keep them entertained.
Let’s get them out of doors first, with a couple of cute garden projects – a bird feeder and some plant tags.

Plant tags
Resene paint stirrers make great plant tags. They’re just the right size and length. For these ones, we hand-painted the letters on with Resene Grass Stain, but you could also use Resene Blackboard Paint to completely cover the stirrer, then write on it in chalk.
Bird feeder
The bird feeder is made with an empty Janola bottle for the body of the feeder (make sure you wash it out well), and a milk container cut into fringed strips for the roof. It’s decorated using Resene testpots in Resene Hi Jinx, Resene Rocket, Resene Bright Spark, Resene Kermit, Resene Dizzy Lizzy and Resene Neva.
Boxed shelves
Give a plain set of storage cubes a lift with a hit of colour. Gather your favourite flag designs and get the look with Resene KidzColour testpots in Resene Bright Spark, Resene Kermit, Resene Rocket, Resene Sports Star and Resene Surfs Up.
Recycled robot
This rather glamorous looking fellow is actually made from old toilet paper roll inserts, a couple of small cardboard boxes, an egg carton, some kebab skewers, toothpicks, a wire pot scrubber, tin foil and some polystyrene balls. He’s then decorated in Resene Yeehaa, Resene Super Sonic, Resene So Cool and Resene Go Go Go.
Canvas mat
This one is a bit more ambitious so may need help from mum, dad or older siblings – a stenciled canvas floor mat with a cool retro twist. It uses Resene KidzColour testpots in Resene Lickety Split, Resene Kermit, Resene Tutti Frutti, Resene Top Secret and Resene Surfs Up.
