Add a Scandi touch to your home with this DIY plant stand. It’s super easy to make and will give your plants a brand new home. Keep your design natural with a ReseneColorwood stain or grab some Resenetestpots in your favourite shades. This would also make a great gift!
You will need:
- Length of 180mm wide x 32mm thick untreated pine board (base)
- Length of 65mm wide x 18mm thick untreated pine board (stand)
- Length of 22mm diameter pine dowel
- Saw
- Sandpaper
- Rag/cloth
- Wood glue
- Electric drill
- Screws
- Hanging plant holder
- Plant
- Paintbrush
- Resene Aquaclear satin
- Resene Quick Dry
- Resene Colorwood wood stain in your chosen colour. Fleur used Resene Natural
- Resene testpots in your favourite shades. Fleur used Resene Casper and Resene Rice Cake
Step 1:Start by cutting all your bits of wood to length – Fleur cut the base to 21.5cm long, the stand to 39cm long and the dowel to 13cm long. Sand any rough edges smooth with a fine grit sandpaperand wipe off sanding dust with a damp cloth. Prime the base and the dowel with a coat of Resene Quick Dry. Once the primer is dry, paint and stain your pieces with two coats of your chosen shade – Fleur used Resene Casper for the base, Resene Rice Cake for the dowel and ReseneColorwood Natural for the stand. Once this has dried, apply two coats of ReseneAquaclear satin.
Step 2:On the underside of the base, pre-drill three pilot holes, add wood glue to the bottom end of the stand and then using three long screws, screw through the base and attach the upright in place.
Step 3: Drill another pilot hole near the top of the stand, then glue and screw the piece of dowel in place.
Step 4:To make it look like the dowel is going right through the upright, cut off a short length of dowel, prime and paint it with more of the same colour, and use wood glue to glue the piece of dowel over the screw head that is securing the dowel.
Step 5: Add your hanging plant and place in your home somewhere to enjoy.
